One measurement day does not tell the whole story of exposure
Occupational hygiene measurements are typically carried out a few times a year, often over a single working day.
Measurements are taken with gravimetric equipment, and the results are used to assess workers' long-term exposure.
Although the gravimetric measurement method is accurate in itself, a one-day measurement period means that most working days and possible exposure situations are not measured.
Safera DustHero | PM1, PM2.5, PM4
Designed for real-time exposure monitoring in work environments
With the Safera DustHero particulate matter monitor, exposure can be measured continuously with the accuracy needed for trend monitoring alongside occupational hygiene measurements.
The monitor can be installed fixed in a space or attached to a worker's clothing or accessories.

Benefits of continuous and real-time occupational hygiene monitoring
Monitor exposure continuously
You can track worker exposure continuously, removing uncertainty about choosing a representative measurement period.
Real-time monitoring
When needed, you can see in real time (every 10 s) when and where exposure occurs during the working day.
Identify critical situations
Identify critical work phases and situations where concentrations rise.
Base actions on measured data
You can respond to exposure quickly and base measures on measured data.
Verifiable impacts
You can verify the effect of measures taken.
Complete picture of exposure
Get a complete picture of exposure by measuring both spaces and workers at the same time.
Document exposure over the long term
As an additional service, you can connect the Safera DustHero particulate matter monitor to Safera Cloud.
In the service you can review exposure history, identify abnormal events and document the impact of measures taken.
Air quality is stored in the service as a 10-minute average.
Comparison with occupational hygiene reference measurements
DustHero measurement results matched the reference measurement well in a factory environment. DustHero complements occupational hygiene measurements with continuous exposure monitoring and supports preventive exposure control alongside them.
Results
- Median difference compared with reference measurement: +3%
- Average difference: -7…-9%
- Reference instrument: GRIMM Portable Aerosol Spectrometer Model 1.108
- Monitors calibrated with Arizona Test Dust
Comparison setup
- Nine Safera DustHero particulate matter monitors
- Some monitors placed at fixed measurement points
- Some monitors carried with the worker
Want better visibility into worker exposure between measurement days too?
DustHero helps you understand how particulate matter concentrations vary in real time during working days, and it provides continuous visibility into worker exposure.
The aim is to offer occupational hygienists a new tool for preventing exposure, supporting official measurements.
The patented sensor technology in the DustHero particulate matter monitor is based on nearly two decades of air quality monitoring experience at Finnish Safera Ltd. The product will be available soon, and before launch we are developing it in pilot projects together with customers, research projects and authorities.
